As a property manager one has to encounter many maintenance issues. Whether you manage a single family home or multifamily units like
apartments. We are going to discuss now some of the general house maintenance tips that could save our foundation, doors, walls, roof and other vital parts of the house. We can’t ignore home safety tips if we want our home to stay structurally sound and retain its full value till long.

Checking sump pumps
Sump pumps are the last time of defense against floods, condensation build up and water from drains. You need to test the pump at least every 6 months to avoid any damaged foundation. For extra protection you can also apply an automatic leak detector.

Check for mice nests
Keep an eye on mice nests in your home where they are. Because when they nest in places like your A/C units, garden machinery and near electrical wiring, they often keep wires clipping with teeth which can be disastrous.

Cleaning dryer
Every time we use our dryer we are adding a little bit of lint to the vent. It makes the dryer less efficient and will take longer to dry the clothes which can turn dryer into fire hazards. So keep removing the vent from the dryer to keep your house safe from fire.

Removing Termites
Termites pose a considerable risk to your home. Take a flashlight and a screwdriver to inspect the wood and use a spray can of foam to plug any gaps where they could get in.

Replacement of battery
In each detector change the battery twice a year. Be careful after replacement whether or not the new battery is faulty.

Fire Distinguisher
Make sure that the fire extinguisher at your home is working properly and is also accessible.

Cleaning Chimneys
If you have a wood burning fire place at your home, don’t let it become a danger. Keep properly checkup a buildup of dirt, bird’s nests or objects ending up in the chimney can easily catch fire and burn your house down.

Keep Gutters up to date
Clogged gutters can over flow and break and put strains on the roof itself. So keep your gutters in top condition.

Seal doors and windows leakage
Elements from outwards facing windows and doors could cause the seal around the frames to rot away. If you have that plastic seals around your windows and doors, replace it because you will have much higher time heating your home as the heat will slowly seep away.

By following the precautions mentioned above you can protect your home from being damaged and depreciate its worth to a large extinct.
